TUMALO MOUNTAIN
The reward for trekking to the top of Tumalo Mountain is the three-sixty view. To the north, Middle Sister pokes her head up between South Sister and Broken Top, vying for attention. This photo, taken in July, shows the girls still wearing some of their winter wardrobe. |
The trail, starting from Dutchman Flat Sno-Park, rises 1,200' in just 1.5 miles. |
Forest shades the path most of the way ... |
... with Mt. Bachelor peeking through from time to time (be sure to look behind you on the way up!).
The trees thin a little as you approach the top. |
Above the tree line, the 360 view takes in Mt. Bachelor to the south ... |
... and Sparks Lake to the west.
Looking east is the basin and beyond ... |
... and of course to the north you recognize these lovely ladies.
