TAM MCARTHUR RIM

Tam Rim w/ Three Creek Lake

I remember looking up at Tam McArthur Rim from across Three Creek Lake - anticipating and dreading the climb. As with most climbs, though, getting to the top isn't as bad as it looks from the bottom ...  and in the case of Tam McArthur Rim, the incredible views are well worth the effort.

The trail, steep at first, arcs around the lake toward the rim ...

... with glimpses of snow-speckled mountains peeking over the tree line.

The trail is well-maintained with a few places that require navigating over large tree roots and loose shale.

The rim towers 1,200 feet above a heart-shaped lake.  The 360 panorama from the top takes in the Ochocos to the east, the Cascade Range all the way to Rainier, and up-close-and-personal views of Broken Top and the Sisters.

Coming up on the rim provides a clear view of Little Three Creek Lake far below where she sets beside her big sister.

The trail along the top of the rim is rocky and decorated with hardy wildflowers.

Walking west away from the rim, the trail comes to a large ravine. Directly across are all three Sisters, standing guard over a barren landscape
