PILOT BUTTE

North and Middle Sister

If you want to hike a trail in the center of Bend with views from Mt. Bachelor to Mt. Hood, try hiking the trail (not the road) to the top of Pilot Butte.

To get his day started off well, Gary prefers walking this trail at sunrise when there is little foot traffic.

The trail circles the butte through sagebrush and juniper, typical high desert vegetation.

There are several park benches planted along the way for catching one's breath and enjoying the views.

As a caption for this photo, I would have a tendency to write: "Mt. Jefferson preens in the pinks and blues of early morning," while Gary would say, "Here's a picture of Mt. Jefferson."

Broken Top and South Sister greet the morning sun (Gary would say, "Here's a picture of Broken Top and South Sister").

Bachelor and Tumalo Mountain are still covered in snow in June.

Morning sun hits Aubrey Butte and Mt. Washington.
